making stuff fit

I spent most of the day sorting out parts from all over the world and making them fit together. Here is the rear brake drum for the 47 that we are building for Glen in PA. It has a sleeve that is precision honed for bearings to fit into, the only problem is that the sleeve did not fit over the corresponding nub on the hub and it was out of round from not being properly honed.

So I bolted it to the table of the mill and co axed in the hole down towards the center of the race because it was more round.. If you get in a rush to hone out holes they can bell mouth and not be concentric.

after I got the brake drum to fit on the hub, I found out that the axle would not fit through the hollow axle. At first I thought it might be plating build up on the axle so I diamond lapped it, but it still wouldn't fit through the hole.

So I went to the trusty sunnen pin hone. I did not have any standard length arbor, so I used the little blind hole one. It worked well.

Here is a blurry picture of it all put together. We still have some cool plans for the brake drum and backing plate, but it is set up well enough to start on the frame.

My dad is just about done with this show motor. Man this thing glows.

GL 47 motor finished! and loctite saddlebags

and we got the saddlebags for Andy's 47 today. I will mount them up this weekend, then we can ship out the bike wooo hooo.

Here is a neat picture of the silver paint on the case from when the welch plug was put into the right case of Jerry's 49.

Check out the red sealer on the oil filter canister top.

This is a 47 saddle bag.

And this is a 48 bag. They are pretty damn cool.

These are some brackets that I cut off of a reproduction front fork. They are for the front brake shackle and the fender mounts

I never thought that I would get to trim a fork. I am sending it off to a friend to section and narrow it for a bobber project.

plating etc

A box full of nickle plating showed up today from our friend Doug! This stuff looks so good. Most of the 36 to 39 manifolds are reproduction ones that we make.


These are for the 47 bobber that we are building for Glenn. I pre polished some spots on them, and as soon as i hit the areas with a little bit of compound, these will glow!



HEre are some of the carbs that got plated. Pretty cool stuff!




Ray is still prefitting all the stuff that goes on the 65. It is coming along well, the fender tips and tail light were repro on the bike. I found an original tail light and rear fender tip, but still need an og frong tip.
